The Best Email Marketing Tool: Why I Love Flodesk

Flodesk is the new kid on the block when it comes to email marketing providers and I (and hundreds of other creative entrepreneurs) have fallen in love with it. It’s easy to use, has everything you need to build a successful email list (and look good while doing it), and has a clean and simple UI that is a pleasure to use. Read on to find out what I love about it and if it’s the right fit for you.

What is Flodesk?

Flodesk is an email marketing platform like Mailchimp, Mailerlite, and ConvertKit. Unlike those platforms, however, Flodesk makes the process of putting emails together a creative one, allowing you to easily brand your emails without going back and forth with Adobe programs or Canva. Flodesk uncomplicates email marketing for small businesses.

I use Flodesk to deliver my Master Checklist (if you’ve not yet signed up to get the Checklist, click here) which then leads into my welcome sequence. When someone has been through my welcome sequence, they’re moved onto my quarterly newsletter list. Flodesk handles it all without me needing to lift a finger.

Why use Flodesk?

#1 It’s so easy to use

Flodesk is like Squarespace for email marketing – anyone can get good results with it and pick it up without a huge learning curve. It’s all drag-and-drop and the clean UI ensures you aren’t overloaded with options. You can easily view what your email looks like on desktop and mobile and make changes as necessary, which ensures you make the most out of every email open.

I’ve used other email providers in the past such as Mailchimp, MailerLite, and Campaign Monitor, and I find Flodesk is by far the easiest to use and provides everything small – medium-sized businesses need.

#2 Switching to them is easy

I was fortunate enough to start my business around the same time Flodesk started to become popular, so I didn’t have to deal with migrating a huge email list over from another provider, but many other business owners have and found it easy and stress-free.

#3 Plenty of templates

Designers will find using Flodesk a breeze, but if you’re not a designer you don’t need to worry, because they provide pre-designed templates you can just drag-and-drop your assets and content into to create a modern and professional newsletter.

The fact that you don’t have to keep heading back to Canva or Photoshop to design an aspect of your newsletter is as much of a benefit for designers as it is for those less inclined.

#4 Set your brand identity

Flodesk allows you to save some basic elements of your brand identity so it’s easy to brand the emails you create. You can save your logo, brand colours, and fonts so you don’t have to select all the basics whenever you start a new email or select a new template.

#5 Easy integration

Flodesk integrates with Squarespace, Shopify, Showit, and other website platforms simply by adding a Code Block on your site and pasting the form’s code into the block. Flodesk also works with Zapier to integrate with more than 1500 other applications, such as WooCommerce, Facebook Lead Ads, Slack, and more.

#6 Blanket pricing

One of Flodesk’s biggest selling points is in its pricing, especially if you already have an established list. Many of the other email marketing platforms have increased their prices and made having a large number of a big financial drain unless you’re driving significant ROI from your list. With Flodesk, you pay $38 per month no matter how many subscribers you have, or $19 per month (about £14 per month) if you sign up via my affiliate link: This makes it a competitive option for those just starting their list and a no-brainer option for those looking to cut costs and/or move to a more user-friendly platform.

#7 Set up sequences, segment, and tag smoothly

All email marketing platforms offer custom workflows that allow you to automate the emails new subscribers (and other segments) receive, but few make it as easy as Flodesk. Flodesk simplifies this process and aims to do all the tagging for you. They aim to automate the tagging process for you by recognising the behaviours of those on your lists and tagging them appropriately. Automated tagging saves time and goes on whether you’re actively using those tags or not – meaning if you decide later you want to tag a behaviour, Flodesk can apply those tags retroactively for you. (Learn more about this feature here.

This means you’re much less likely to send someone an email they didn’t want, at a rate or speed you didn’t plan to, or miss an opportunity to reach out to a lead at just the right time. There’s nothing that will turn a potential client off more than suddenly receiving eight emails in one day or not hearing from you for two months after signing up, so you need to be able to trust your email marketing provider.

#8 Add your Instagram feed

Do you have your Instagram feed at the bottom of your website? I do, and I’m willing to bet you do, too. A unique feature of Flodesk is it allows you to do this at the bottom of your emails, too. All you need to do is link your Instagram account via your “Brand Preferences” and then add a “feed block” when you’re building your emails. This is a great way to share a moment in your personal life, show what you’ve been up to, showcase recent projects, or link to other resources you provide.

#9 At-a-glance analytics

Most small business owners don’t need dozens of different metrics to analyse the success of their email campaigns, but finding these essential statistics on some of the other email platforms isn’t as easy as it should be. On Flodesk, you can see all of your vital statistics on one page and simply hover over them or click on them to get additional details. You can see things like recipients, open rates, and click rates at a glance, and then go into more detail on devices used to view your email and more.

This makes it easy to check where you’re at and make decisions on how to move forward.

Flodesk is hands-down the best email marketing platform I’ve ever used; it’s intuitive, does everything you need it to, and isn’t loaded with bells and whistles you will never use. It is the Canva and Squarespace of the email marketing world: it simply makes life easy and it’s a pleasure to use.
